The festival is intended for students at the 8th-grade level. However, ensembles that are a combination of 7th and 8th graders may be permitted.
The purpose of the festival is to provide middle school age musicians a learning and social experience not typically accessible as part of their instrumental music curriculum.
The Northeast Wisconsin Festival of Music was created to offer a large group festival experience for middle school bands and orchestras. During a 45 minute performance window, participating ensembles will first perform for critique before a panel of adjudicators. Following the performance, adjudicators will interact with the ensemble in a clinic format. Additionally, all participating ensembles will actively participate in the critique of at least one other performing group.
The NEW Festival of Music is geared toward eighth grade level or mixed seventh/eighth grade level bands and orchestras.
